Brevard
College
Brevard
College is a small, private, liberal arts college in
Brevard North Carolina. Founded in 1934, Brevard flourished
as a junior college for many years. Increasing competition led the
college to become a four-year institution in 1996. Brevard College
is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, whose beauty attracts many
to the school. The college is one mile from Pisgah National Forest
and less than ½ mile to the downtown area of Brevard. Both
serve as important resources for many of the school's programs relating
to art, ecology, environmental issues, and wilderness leadership.
Approximately 700 students
are enrolled for the 2007-2008 school year. You can imagine the endless
outdoor opportunities for hiking, paddling, rock climbing, mountain
biking and horseback riding that students can take advantage of,
in addition to the athletic teams supported by the college on campus
which include baseball, softball, basketball, cross-country, tennis,
football, soccer, track and field, volleyball, and disc golf.
A highlight for art and
music is the Porter Center for the Performing Arts, located on the
college campus. The college uses this concert hall for their music
and theatrical programs and the hall hosts many concerts throughout
the year with world-renowned artists. It has one of the largest
pipe organs in the region and seats 700 easily. The acoustics in
the hall are fantastic.
Brevard
College offers over 40 majors and minors, two of which are
ecology and
experiential education. |
